The Species Survival Plan which is abbreviated as SSP is an animal management program for the cooperation among the AZA Accredited zoos. This program was initiated back in 1981 as the cooperative management of population and as a conservation program that is especially designed for few species that are available in zoos and aquarium of North America. The SSP has managed the breeding of the species so that it can uphold a very fit and self-satisfying population that is hereditarily varied and established. Apart from these, SSP has participated in several other cooperative and conservative activities that include research, education, introduction and many other projects. As per the statistics, there are 107 SSPs presently working that covers almost 161 species which are governed by the AZA, which is Association of Zoos and Aquarium. The membership comprises of recognized zoos and aquarium all through the region of North America.
Nowadays, the Little Rock Zoo is recognised as the habitat for numerous species which are on the list of Species Survival Plan. Whenever you plan to visit the zoo, you will get to see many of the SSP animals and other species. These will include animals like gorillas, chimpanzees, rhinoceros and many other animals. You will get to see the symbol of SSP whenever you will visit the zoo which is displayed all around the premises. If you support the Little Rock Zoo, it will support the SSP program as well. These programs are working in order to keep these animals safe and secure every time in the future. Using this program, you can make a huge difference by supporting the conservation programs and helping the efforts that is has initiated.
The program is especially made in order to support the threatened and endangered species that are in danger since long as they are becoming extinct day by day. They are vanishing because of many human activities that take place all around the world. It also happens due to several environmental factors. They are also protected under the act of the regulations and many other measures that are taken for the conservation of these endangered species. Unless and until these animals are given complete protection and a positive step is taken in order to save them, the extinct species will become even more endangered. They are only going to survive when they will be saved by the attempt of zoological institutions and wildlife protection movements and parks. If you support the zoo as well its programs that is in the favour of protecting the species, you can lend a hand in protecting these animals and many other species that are under the threat of vanishing very soon.
There are many SSPs that have come up with reintroduction schemes that not only include reintroduction of animals and endangered species again into the wildlife but also work for many other establishment programs. SSP is associated with the US Fish and wildlife service that supports the extinct species and work for their revival strategies.
